SPECPRECISION EXPS HD Deluxe: The Details Behind the Design

When we worked on the EXPS HD Deluxe, we focused on the details you notice once you start using it: the feel of the adjustment clicks, the brightness of the reticle through night vision, and how clearly the red reticle stands out in sunlight.

Here is a closer look at those features and what they mean when setting up the sight.

What the EXPS HD Deluxe Offers

The EXPS HD Deluxe combines a red reticle with motion activation, automatic brightness adjustment, and dedicated night vision settings. After 10 minutes without movement, it enters standby. Movement or vibration wakes the reticle again.

The housing has a carefully finished exterior, with attention to the position and orientation of the battery compartment. The sight also carries an IPX7 waterproof rating.

Adjustment Clicks You Can Hear and Feel

When comparing EXPS-style replicas, take a close look at the adjustment mechanism. Does the control turn with distinct clicks? Does it actually move the point of aim? Once the sight is zeroed, does it stay there?

On the EXPS HD Deluxe, each adjustment provides an audible click and a clear tactile response. That makes it easier to count adjustments and keep track of changes while zeroing.

The click itself is only part of the job. A control can make a sound without adjusting accurately, and a sight can be adjusted without holding that setting during use. Adjustment feedback, effective zeroing, and zero retention all deserve separate attention.

The EXPS HD Deluxe supports zero adjustment and zero retention on GBBR and 5.56 platforms. A secure mount and a consistent setup remain essential when checking the result.

Distinct adjustment clicks make changes easier to track.

Night Vision Settings That Bring the Brightness Down

A reticle that looks fine to the naked eye can be much too bright through night vision. Instead of a clean aiming reference, you may see a bright bloom that covers part of the scene.

The EXPS HD Deluxe has dedicated night vision settings that reduce reticle brightness for this purpose. The aim is to keep the reticle visible without overpowering the image behind it.

The best setting depends on your night vision device, its gain, and the available light. Start low and adjust for the view through your own setup.

A Red Reticle That Stays Visible Outdoors

Bright sunlight is where reticle visibility becomes especially noticeable. A pale wall, sunlit ground, or a bright background can make a dim aiming point difficult to pick up.

The EXPS HD Deluxe delivers a crisp red reticle that remains visible in bright outdoor sunlight. Automatic brightness adjustment responds to changes in ambient light.

Through-the-sight photos are useful for showing the view, though camera exposure and focus affect how the reticle appears. The direct view may look different from the photograph.

A Note on the Optical Design

The EXPS HD Deluxe is a reflex red dot sight. It is not a holographic sight, despite the familiar housing shape, and should not be considered a replacement for the original holographic optic.
